USTP Jasaan conducts orientation for newly hired part-time faculty members

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental conducted an orientation for the Newly Hired Part-Time Faculty Members last February 5, 2021. The activity was designed to enlighten the new faculty members with the vision, mission and goals (VMG) of the University and to orient them with the different platforms used for teaching.

The twelve (12) part-time faculty members were welcomed by the USTP Jasaan personnel led by Acting Campus Director Dr. Ruel S. Salvador.

Professor Ferdinand M. Oraiz, Head for Administration, expounded on the vision and mission of the University while Engr. Maricel C. Mandawe, Academic Head, introduced the University Officials.

Part of the program was a demonstration on how to use the different platforms for teaching such as the e-Class Record, AMATROL, University of Science and Technology e-learning Portal (USTEP), Princetech Integrated School Management System (PRISM) and Human Resource Integrated System (HRIS).

The activity was geared towards inspiring the new part-time faculty members to perform well and to implement innovative teaching.

USTP Jasaan joins townwide Clean up Drive

In line with the 20th Anniversary of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of
2000 and the Zero Waste Month, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) Jasaan participated in the Townwide Clean Up Drive with the theme “Bouncing Back from Pandemic to a Greener and Healthier Environment” last January 29, 2020. 

The University’s faculty and staff headed by its administrators participated in the
Clean Up Drive. Health protocols were observed as mandated by the IATF.

Equipped with broomsticks, dustpans, and garbage bags, the University’s faculty and staff cleaned the surrounding area of the campus. The collected wastes were then segregated according to the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. Residual wastes were placed inside the garbage bags and biodegradable wastes were collected for decomposition.

USTP Jasaan would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Senator Sonny M. Angara for the inclusion of funds to support projects of the University. Inclusion of funds amounting to Php10 Million for the proposed construction of University Residences in USTP CDO and another Php5 Million worth of equipment for the offering of the Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in the USTP Jasaan. USTP Jasaan BS IT Program Undergoes Level II Accreditation by AACCUP

Faculty and Staff of USTP Jasaan attended the AACCUP accreditors on a virtual interview on the second day of the one-week virtual visit.

First time in the history of accreditations in the Philippines the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines Jasaan campus submitted its Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program for level II accreditation. This was held on December 7-11, 2020. One of the main goals of program accreditation is to help determine if an institution meets or exceeds minimum standards of quality.

The 5-day BS IT program accreditation was headed by USTP Jasaan campus director Dr. Ruel S. Salvador, together with its academic head Engr. Maricel C. Mandawe, and BS IT program chairperson Ms. Nevel Taurine D. Cuasito. USTP team Jasaan is also composed of area chairpersons working hand in hand to prepare the pertinent documents for BS IT program for level II. Ms. Nivea Louwah D. Sermona, QAA director and Mr. Irwin C. Fabela, accreditation coordinator for USTP Jasaan helped guide the entire accreditation tasks force. Noteworthy to mention, the virtual accreditation would not have been complete without the expertise of the following team of accreditors: Dr. Czarina Ancella G. Gabi, Southern Leyte State University, team leader, Dr. Nancy Getalado-Lanuza, Northwest Samar State University, team member, and Dr. Benhur A. Asid, Western Mindanao University, team member. With an end view of improving the BSIT program and maintaining quality education USTP team is excited to wait for the results of the accreditation to continue its strengths and improve weak areas in accordance with the accreditors recommendations.

USTP Jasaan Faculty and Staff Attend Rizal 123rd Day Celebration

Faculty and Staff of USTP Jasaan together with the LGU of Jasaan paid tribute to Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s 123rd Day Celebration.

In observance of the nation’s celebration of the 123rd death anniversary of the Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines Jasaan campus showed up in active participation to remember Dr. Rizal’s nationalism and martyrdom which was highlighted by the raising of the Philippine flag and laying of wreath at Rizal monument, town plaza, in the municipality of Jasaan, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental. For this purpose, December 30
is a non-working holiday. The theme of this year’s Rizal Day celebration is “Rizalismo: Sandigan ng
Kaunlaran, Pagkakaisa at Kapayapaan”. This is a very timely theme to reflect on the pressing economic crisis that has been experienced by Filipino people brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a call for all Filipinos to work hand and hand to combat this testing time in remembering the martyrdom of Dr. Rizal in bringing people together to immortalize Rizal and the significance of his heroic deeds in the contemporary time.

USTP to Provide Tablets and Communication Expenses to its Students, and Laptops to its Faculty Members

On Oct. 20 2020, the Board of Regents aprroved Resolution No. 139, s. 2020: A Resolution Approving the Amendment of the Revised Program of Receipts and Expenditures Funded Under the Internally Generated Income for Fiscal Year 2020. Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, a member of the Board, moved that the resolution be further amended to make sure that USTP students who have no gadgets for online learning be provided with tablets. While the faculty members who have no laptops be provided one and those students already having the gadgets be granted subsidy for communication expenses. Last Nov. 4, 2020 during its special meeting, the Board unanimously approved BOR Resolution No. 146, s. 2020 which implements the support for USTP students and faculty members for online learning. The support by USTP to its students and faculty members in the CDO campus including its satellite campuses such as the Balubal campus are: (1) 756 tablets for use of USTP students with postpaid load given on a weekly basis of 200 pesos per week, until the end of the year (around P7.6 million, including P328,320 for 93 WiFi ready tablets to Balubal students) (2) 238 tablets with wifi for use of students who have no gadgets in the satellite campuses in Jasaan, Mis. Or, and Oroquieta and Panaon, Mis. Occ. (P2.7million)(3) Communication expenses for 2,701 students who have gadgets but do not have loads (P1.7 million)(4) 173 laptops for faculty members who do not have laptops (P6.3 million)(5) Additional leaseline internet subscription for satellite campuses including Balubal campus (P8.8 million)(6) Online content subscription and other ICT facilities. The total support for USTP students and faculty members in its CDO campus and satellite campuses (excluding Claveria campus) is P41.9 million. For the Claveria campus, the support for the students and faculty consists of: (1) 1308 tablets for use by the students with weekly load (P15 million)(2) Communication expenses for faculty members and students who have gadgets but need loads (P3.3 million)(3) Outdoor wifi devices for students. The Total for Claveria campus is P18.7 million. The tablets are provided to the students under a usufruct agreement wherein they will return them upon graduation. The laptops of faculty members will be returned upon resignation or retirement. Rep. Rodriguez thanked and congratulated all the members of the USTP Board of Regents and its officers for their concern for the students and faculty members in need of the gadgets due to online learning caused by Covid-19 pandemic. This will assure that no student in USTP will be left behind for being unable to afford a gadget or has no resources for connectivity expenses.
