Last October 7, 2017, the students of University of Science and Technology of the Southern Philippines Jasaan Campus, together with the conjoined forces of Mr. Greg Pegarro, Kagawad Wilfredo Capillador and Ms. Humbeline Rebecca Maerie Casino conducted a Mangrove planting at Aplaya Coastal Area, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental.
They, with the Senior High students, College students, and activity-in-charge, planted Mangrove to protect shoreline from damaging storm, hurricane, waves and floods. Mangrove can maintain clarity, filtering pollutants and trapping sediments originating from land. The USTPeans and the two supportive teachers of the school enjoyed the ambiance of the fresh air from the Macajalar Bay. Everyone expects Mangrove is useful for the rest of their livings.
“Mangrove objective is to create awareness to the local communities and the significance of mangrove ecosystem as the vital component is sustaining livelihood and to educate the local people in conserving and managing their natural resources with the vision of sustainability” clearly stated by Ms. Humbeline Rebecca Maerie Casino science teacher of the USTP Jasaan Campus.
